It's hard yes, even for a mech like Optimus Prime. I think most wouldn't have been able to do it, but well... ^^ He's Optimus Prime.
This universe has several dozen "subplots". This story tells one of them. ^^ The last one of Prowl and Jazz. But I might write a few later, that tell what Starscream or Soundwave did.
You're on a very good thought path for the end game. It is about awareness and putting the dead to rest, yes. :D Not telling more, but this is definitely part of it.
